Concerts are my favorite thing to shoot. It makes me sad that so many amazing live show moments are and will be forever lost to time. I want to record those moments so that they live on in some way.
I prefer shooting entire performances with one camera and a directional mic. I like a 150mm lens, up close, high shutter speed, and just the right amount of handheld shake to capture the raw energy and “had to be there” feeling of a live, high energy performance. I’ll use a monopod/wider lenses for a more standard look as well.
