Smash at

the Commune

In 2024, I started and ran a bi-weekly tournament for a popular fighting video game called Super Smash Bros Melee. I changed it later to a monthly, running for 25 months straight. While it may seem like a bunch of guys playing video games, the work required to run these events was monumental.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Graphic Design of stream assets and tournament placement graphics

  • Advertisement and announcements across multiple platforms

  • Physical setup lugging 15 heavy and old CRT TV’s in the hot Texas sun

  • Managing the finances of entrant fees against the cost of the venue

  • Battle the clock by running the event smoothly in a tight time slot

Accomplishments:

  • Arguably revived the competitive Smash Bros Scene in Austin

  • Hosted tournaments with as high as 44 entrees, very high for the type of event

  • Continue to consistently run SATC, making a small profit each event
